My music is based on my belief that "The music of today inevitably, and perhaps necessarily, embraces the music of all previous ages..."

Since the invention of sound recording all the music of the past thousand years and more is instantly available to us. In the twentieth century, composers reacted against this, creating ever more inaccessible music to a point where their audiences were lost.

But now the wilder excesses of the twentieth century avant-garde have had their day, and composers can begin once again to connect with their listeners.

In my writing I seek beauty in both the familiar and the unfamiliar, and so my work covers a broad spectrum of style, from the popular and commercial to the experimental, intellectual and challenging, lending the same artistic rigour and technical craftsmanship to everything from my music for schools to my work for professional performers.
